Corporate Social Responsibility - “Blood Ties” - Ultimate Success for Attica Group’s 7th Employee Blood Donation Program

With a “society-oriented” philosophy and under the slogan “Blood Ties”, Attica Group implemented for a 4th consecutive year and in collaboration with the Athens General Hospital “G. Gennimatas” the voluntary blood donation program for its employees.

The established blood donation program took place twice over the year and in particular in May and September 2012 at the company’s Head Office as well as on board Attica Group’s vessels docked at the port of Piraeus.

High participation levels, both by land-based and by on-board employees during this year’s blood donations, actively demonstrate that the special focus of a contemporary business corporation should be on producing an overall positive impact on the local community and society at large.

A total collection of 70 blood units proves that this initiative has become an established tradition for Attica Group, since the Blood Bank created responds to the demands of residents of remote islands which the Company services and at the same time covers emergency needs both for Group employees and for their families.

In particular, the Blood Bank was created in order to:

• Offer blood in case of contingency to the residents of remote islands, which the company services.
• Offer blood in case of contingency to the Group employees or their families.
• Promote the importance and value of voluntary blood donation and reinforce the spirit of solidarity between workers on board ships, in offices and travel agencies and the islands.

“Blood Ties” is a part of Attica Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility Program entitled “With you as our destination” which is addressed to the islands served by the Group’s fleet through its ship owning companies Blue Star Ferries & Superfast Ferries.
