27/03/2000 - Launching of Blue Star 2
The Board of Directors of Strintzis Lines Shipping S.A., is pleased to announce the launching and namegiving of Blue Star 2 which took place at Van der Giessen de Noord Yard, Rotterdam on Saturday 25th March, 2000 in the presence of the Boards and senior management of the parent Company Attica Enterprises and of Strintzis Lines.
Mrs M. Strintzis, daughter of the Chairman of Strintzis Lines, Mr Ger. Strintzis, was the lady sponsor for the christening of the ship.
Blue Star 2 is an ultramodern car-passenger ferry with a capacity for 1,600 passengers and 850 cars or 110 trucks and 100 private cars. Together with her sistership Blue Star 1, she will introduce a new daily service in the Adriatic between Ancona and Brindisi to Patras as of the beginning of the summer season. The vessel will offer to her passengers A la cart Restaurant, Self Service Restaurant, Night Club Lounge, Coffee Lounge, 2 Cinemas, Boutique, Swimming Pool and all the comforts for a cruise-level trip.
At a service speed of about 28 knots, the route between Patras – Brindisi will be covered in the record time of nine hours and the route between Patras – Ancona with an intermediate stop in Brindisi will be covered in twenty one hours.
Strintzis Lines during the summer season will operate also the ships Blue Horizon, Blue Sky, Blue Island and Blue Galaxy in the service to Venice and Blue Bridge daily from Igoumenitsa in Northern Greece to Brindisi.
